A Guide for Efficient and Effective Manholes in Drainage System

///A Guide for Efficient and Effective Manholes in Drainage System

What are Manholes?

Manholes are chambers constructed along some sewer lines for operators to have access to main sewer points. There are three types of manholes, namely, shallow manhole, normal manhole, and deep manhole.

What are Manholes

Shallow manholes or inspection chambers are usually situated on highways with little traffic and volume of cars. It has a light cover on its top. The second type of manhole is a normal manhole. Unlike the shallow manhole, the normal manhole has a big and heavy top. This manhole is usually in a square shape form. The last manhole is called the deep manhole. This manhole is a lot comprehensive in structure compared to the other two manholes. Meaning, its depth can be gradually increased through time. Because of its depth, this manhole is always provided with a facility that helps operators go down.

Why are manholes necessary for drainage system?

Why are manholes necessary for drainage system?

There are four reasons as to why manholes are necessary. First, manholes are used as a portal to allow inspection, cleaning, and maintenance operations. Second, manholes are needed for the construction of joint sewers, aligning sewers, and more. Third, a manhole provides good ventilation for sewers. Sewers emit a considerable amount of gases that can be combustible. To avoid accidents, manholes are constructed to let trapped gases spread out. Last, manholes help in laying down the sewer lines.

Efficient and Effective Manholes for Your Drains

Efficient and Effective Manholes for Your Drains

There are several things to keep in mind in maintaining an efficient and effective manhole for your drains. One of the most important maintenance operations for manhole is the cleaning or drain clearing operation. If a manhole becomes inoperable due to blockage or a defect in the construction, it can lead to several problems in a property that sits on it. For example, blocked manholes can’t be properly cleaned or inspected in the future. Another problem of the poorly maintained manhole is when its top becomes damaged. Debris and water can seep inside the drainage system and add to the blockage.

With this, it is necessary to take steps into maintaining an efficient and effective manhole. One has to understand, though, that manhole maintenance should be left to the experts. Why? Manholes can’t be maintained manually. One has to employ agencies with machines that can do the job professionally. In addition to that, climbing down on manholes are not supposed to be done by untrained individuals. Manholes have hazardous gases and substances. Going down there without the proper equipment and suit can be dangerous.

Like many others I just cannot recommend Matt and M.R.Drains more highly. Recently we had a very elusive problem with water ingress in the basement flat of our building on the New Kings Road, Fulham. Over a period of a month several so called drainage experts came to take a look. In short none of them had a clue despite charging vast amounts of money for camera surveys etc and giving eye watering estimates. It was our good fortune to stumble across Matt. First of all he arrived when he said he would and secondly had identified the problem in under half an hour. The cost of the video survey was peanuts in comparison to others and his equipment state of the art. By that evening he had emailed us the video, a report and a quote to send to our insurers. It was more than reasonable. Matt came several days later, again exactly when he said he would, and within a couple of days had repaired and lined the damaged pipes etc I felt completely comfortable leaving him with the keys of our property. We now have no water ingress and fully operational drains with a ten year warranty. Matt was very user friendly and a pleasure to deal with. I will definitely be recommending him to others.read more

Unbeatable on price, speed and efficiency. A total breeze organising and completing the job with Matt. Very reasonably priced and we were even charged £5 less than quoted, which rarely happens. Honest.read more

I cannot recommend this company highly enough. We contacted MR Drains Ltd and spoke with a their reception team who advised the person we needed to speak to was on the other line, but he'd call back within 5 minutes, which he did. We got a call back within minutes from Matt, who arranged to visit the property on the same day within 3 hours of receiving our call. He worked with our plumbers on site to investigate the drainage and track it with a camera. He went above and beyond in staying around to help the plumbers locate and lift other manholes. An absolutely lovely guy, who clearly knows his stuff. Fast, polite, super efficient. If only all companies were like this! Thanks again Matt. From a very happy customer!read more

Excellent service received from Matt and Harry. I had an urgent, serious drain and rodent issue at a residential property. I received an immediate response to my initial enquiry, and the work started within the week. They identified the issues, and were solution orientated, rectifying all of the problems. They were reliable, on time and tidy. They were not the cheapest quote, but the work and materials were of high quality, and you generally get what you pay for. A 10 year guarantee was also provided. I would definitely recommend them.read more
